Jay Severin, a controversial right-wing talk radio show host on Boston's WTKK-FM radio station, has been suspended again over the recent content of his show. The highly-paid host was first pulled off the air in 2009 for calling Mexican immigrants "primitives" and "leeches", and this time the suspension is indefinite as the matter is currently under review.

Greater Media Inc. would not discuss specifics of what the suspension what the suspension was related to, but there is speculation it had to do with Severin's comments on sexual harassment in the workplace. While Severin is one of the highest paid radio hosts in the city, making close to $1 million a ear, his ratings have lagged lately and this led the station to begin introducing a series of co-hosts. One of them, Mike Bower, is now serving as Severin's replacement during his suspension.

Much of today's technology is moving away from analog systems to digital ones. Analog television is being phased out in many countries, and it seems that digital broadcasting will also make an impact for radios.

Digital radio is the wave of the future worldwide, with DAB radio being the popular format in Europe and Australia, HD radio predominating in the US, and access to digital radio via TV, internet and satellite available almost everywhere. Digital platforms like DAB allow for the instant launch of new radio stations without the need for a new license or frequency.

This in turn creates more listener choice and a simplified UI as the new radio stations automatically appear on user receivers. A major Australian broadcasting company is experimenting with the potential of DAB radio with the launch of a new 'pop-up' radio station called ABC UK Newsgate, which will be available both on DAB and online. The temporary station will feature archived news material plus live coverage of news events.

Conservative talk radio show hosts have been saying that president Obama is a wimp because he did not lead the Libyan action. They claim that the president is hiding behind the UN, and has no real real plan in Libya. Some of this criticism may be valid, as the US has been tentative about what to do in Libya and the world has waited too long to deal with Qaddafi. Now getting him out of power will be much more difficult then if fast action to support the rebels had been forthcoming weeks earlier.

There are serious questions about what comes after Qaddafi, as well. The truth is that no one knows for sure, and that is a problem. From an American point of view, this is another frustrating situation in the chaotic Arab world. And it is yet again a drain of billions of dollars in a far away place with no end in sight. The American left is divided over the conflict, with the mainstream liberal media sticking by Obama, while the far left are labeling him as a hypocrite.
